DEDICATED EASTER SEALS PATRONS ARE HONORED
Alabaster residents David and Lara Keough, recently received the Community Service Award from the Alabama Association of Rehabilitation Facilities for their work with Easter Seals of the Birmingham Area. The awards were presented at the annual AARF conference held at the Marriot Grand National in Opelika, Alabama.
Rehabilitation facilities from across the state were asked to submit nominations for individuals and organizations that have made an impact in the lives of children and adults with disabilities in the following categories: Outstanding Rehabilitation Professional, Achievement Award, Rehabilitation Partnership Award, Business Award, Community Service Award, Organization Award and Legislative Award.
Susanne Harris was also awarded for her dedication to Easter Seals, located in Pelham.
“It’s because of Easter Seals supporters like the Keough family and Susanne Harris that we are able to uphold our mission and continue to provide quality services to adults and children with disabilities,” said Kelli Keith, director of development for Easter Seals of the Birmingham Area. “Neither the Keough’s or Susanne would have ever wanted to be noticed for their deeds, but we feel it’s important to recognize people doing good work for others in our community.
David and Lara Keough were awarded the Community Service Award for their non-stop dedication to raising funds and increasing brand awareness for Easter Seals of the Birmingham Area. This award is presented to an individual or organization making a significant contribution to people with disabilities through fundraising, physical plant improvement, program development, public relation activities, media relations, donations or in-kind contributions.
Susanne Harris was awarded the Achievement Award for her ability to overcome lifelong challenges and disabilities in order to provide herself and her family a better life. This award is presented to an individual who has received services through a member organization during the current or immediate past program year and demonstrates significant progress in achieving his/her maximum potential, has overcame substantial mental, physical or emotional barrier, demonstrated spirit of cooperation, initiative and responsibility and demonstrated characteristics of a positive role model for others
